Chiropractic

At the Family Chiropractic & Physiotherapy Centre our Chiropractors focus on eliminating the root cause of your problems instead of chasing your symptoms.

The Philosophy upon which Chiropractic is based can be summed up in one simple phrase: Innate Intelligence. Put simply the human body has an in-built (Innate) system, which is designed to heal itself (Intelligence).

Chiropractors aim to remove interferences from the nervous system (known as subluxations) that stop the bodies 'Innate Intelligence' from healing them naturally.

“We focus on eliminating the root cause of your problems instead of chasing your symptoms”

Treatments primarily focus on the alignment and function of the nervous system by addressing the function of the joints of the body, particularly those of the spine.

This is achieved using gentle techniques known as adjustments alongside other hands on techniques, such as mobilisation and massage. Treatment sessions will also often include advice regarding exercise, rehabilitation and dietary changes. In order to provide the best care available we also co-manage patients with various healthcare professionals and have good communication links with local GPs and Consultants.

Chiropractic Techniques

Our Chiropractors have been trained in a variety of different techniques all designed to improve your complaints as efficiently as possible.

NIP is a fairly new technique, which is at the very cutting edge of modern Chiropractic care. The protocol is designed as a system of analysis to determine the function of the nervous system and is used to find subluxations. The entire examination is lead by neurological findings rather than pain patterns allowing for better accuracy of diagnosis.

The adjustments used to correct subluxations consist of a hold and impulse technique directed to restore normal neurological function with the minimal force. There is no audible 'crack' or movement of bones. It is effective in the care of patients of all ages with a variety of problems and especially those with severe pain.
Diversified Technique assesses the body biomechanically and provides treatment using short, quick thrusts to the affected joints. These techniques can sometimes cause a 'pop' or a 'click' as the pressure changes in the joints, but it has no bearing on the effectiveness of the adjustment delivered.
Both Thompson Drop and Activator Techniques make use of tools to aid in the treatment of spinal and extremity techniques. They allow the Chiropractor to regulate the amount of force used in delivering the treatment.
AK uses manual muscle testing to more accurately locate subluxations and determine the appropriate correction as well as acting as a useful marker as to the improvement seen post-adjustment.
SOT is a system designed to assess and treat the spine, particularly focussing on the Occiput (the base of the skull) and the Sacrum (at the base of the spine). It involves the use of cranial and blocking techniques and is very gentle, therefore is often used with elderly patients.
The McTimoney method is a gentle and precise, whole body approach to chiropractic care. A McTimoney adjustment is known as toggle torque recoil adjustment and is a high speed and low force adjustment. The speed, angle and anatomical specificity of the adjustment is what makes it feel so gentle.

The Chiropractor is aiming to get to the root cause of your symptoms and the whole body approach improves your entire body's function, not just where you are experiencing symptoms. The gentle adjustments to the body make it suitable for people of all ages.
