Physiotherapy Techniques

Our Physiotherapists have been trained in a variety of different techniques all designed to improve your complaints as efficiently as possible.

Joint mobilisations focus on attaining a normal range of pain-free joint motion. Passive and accessory mobilisation techniques are used to treat mechanical pain and stiffness.
Therapeutic Massage is a manual therapy of the connective tissues, used to aid recovery and promote relaxation. This involves primarily muscle and fascia but also tendons and ligaments. Deep friction massage is a specific deep tissue massage that maintains the mobility within the tissue structures to prevent adherent scars from forming.
A range of hands on techniques that aim to deactivate painful knots or tender spots known as Trigger Points. Trigger Points can make a muscle tighter and reduce its efficiency, can lead to pressure on a nerve or blood vessels and are often found in areas away from the site of pain.
Therapeutic ultrasound is a modality that has been used by physiotherapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, tissue heating, local blood flow, scar tissue breakdown and reduce inflammation. The most common conditions treated with ultrasound include soft tissue injuries, swelling and muscle spasm.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles in to the skin with the aim to stimulate the body to produce endorphins and oxytocin, its own pain and stress relieving chemicals. Practitioners are qualified Physiotherapists that are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).
Exercise Rehabilitation is treatment method used to help reduce pain, aid recovery and prevent further injury using exercise. As well as its use in treating obvious injuries it is also used for postural conditions. Many exercise treatments involve a series of exercises that can be done at home or at the gym.
